Miss Myra Pease and my parents, Irene and Russell Beebe, were close friends in Sumner. As a child, I recall visiting her at her home often, but we moved to Florida when I was ten. My parents still phoned her and saw her when they returned for visits. Miss Myra sent the "Upper Room" devotional to my parents for many years and always kept in touch. My parents passed on years ago, but in June of this year, I traveled to Sumner for the first time in over 50 years. I stopped to see Miss Myra at Hillcrest Home when my brother said she was there. She mentioned her mother to me, and I told her that I remembered her mother. I also spoke to her about her cats, and that really brought a gleam to her eyes. When she clasped my hand, she still seemed so strong. I felt like I was connecting with my parents by my connection with her. I was so happy to see her and took my picture with her to have a memory to keep forever. I know she was special to many people who were her family, friends, and students. I will always remember her for all her kindness, her strength, and vivacity for life. If everyone in the world lived like Myra Pease lived, the world would have no ailments. I still have a bird-shaped bud vase that she gave my mother many years ago. It's such a lovely reminder of such a lovely lady.
